Girls United Carnival: A Strong Debut for Our Development Squad

Clinton FC’s inaugural all-Girls Development Squad travelled to Rockhampton on Saturday to compete in the Girls United Social Carnival - marking an exciting milestone for our growing girls’ football program 🩷⚽

Fielding a very young side in an Under 11 competition, the focus for the day was never about results. Instead, the carnival provided a valuable starting point for the season - an opportunity to assess how the girls played together and identify areas to build on throughout the year.

For several players, this was their very first carnival experience and their first time playing with full match rules including throw-ins, corners and goalkeepers. It was a big step forward, and the girls embraced it.

Game Recap

Game 1 vs Cap Coast
The girls opened their carnival campaign with a competitive 2–0 loss to Cap Coast. Despite the result, it was a very even contest and a positive way to start the day.

Game 2 vs Academy Team
Up against a strong all 11-year-old academy side, the girls faced a tough challenge. While it was a big loss, the highlight was scoring their first goal of the carnival - a moment the team celebrated proudly.

Game 3 vs Cap Coast
Another close contest followed, with Cap Coast taking a narrow 1–0 win. The improvement in structure and confidence was already becoming clear.

Game 4 vs Berserker
The final game of the day saw the girls finish strongly, securing an exciting 3–2 win against a much bigger Berserker side. The players - and Coaches Dani and Boony - were thrilled with the result and the way the team competed until the final whistle.

Growth, Grit & Team Culture

The most impressive takeaway for Coaches Dani and Boony wasn’t the scoreboard - it was the visible improvement between Game 1 and Game 4.

The toughness, determination and ability to adapt throughout the day showed exactly the type of team culture they are building for the future. The girls demonstrated resilience, sportsmanship and a willingness to learn - foundations that will serve them well this season.

Well done to our players, Dani and Boony on a fantastic first carnival outing. We’re excited to see how much this squad develops throughout 2026 🩷⚽
